Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (Campaign)

Rumor on the street was that this was supposed to be a short and disappointing experience from series veteran studio Infinity Ward. Maybe I’m getting old, but it took me a solid eight hours to slog through the narrative spaghetti before being hung off a cliff.

I enjoyed the free-form level design of the non-linear sections. The developers did their best to recreate the tension of a Sniper Elite, Battlefield I and Battlefield V, or Metal Gear Solid V playground. The trouble was that the bones they hung the new meat from were Call of Duty bones, and that skeleton is far more at home shooting rounds down corridors over head-glitches than stealth-actioning. Still, I’m a sucker for exploration and Activision has very good gun design.

I’m glad the future calls to duty are going to be free on Xbox Game Pass. I wish they’d hurry up and release the entire back catalog; as someone who destroyed his wrists playing the originals on mouse and keyboard I’d honestly love to revisit those titles from the comfort of my sofa and an Elite gamepad.
