DOOM + DOOM II

I was once a loose acquaintance of Ben Morris, the guy who coded the Doom Construction Kit. It was in his basement in the summer of ’94 that played my first-ever LAN (local-area network, four kids on four computers all playing the same game) deathmatch. I will never forget rounding my first corner and Ben gunning me down with the plasma rifle. I screamed like a pre-pubescent girl catching her first glimpse of her favorite Beatle. I’ve been chasing that same thrill ever since, and nothing has ever topped it.

Waiting thirty years to play all the expansion packs to the original games was worthwhile. In order of enjoyment:

  1. DOOM
  2. DOOM II
  3. Legacy of Rust
  4. TNT: Evilution
  5. No Rest for the Living
  6. Master Levels for DOOM II
  7. The Plutonia Experiment
  8. Sigil

John Romero is a sadist. His level designs are fantastic if you enjoy playing DOOM through a cardboard tube. The end.
