Aurelius’s Meditations was yet another pivotal read that I didn’t note a reason for starting.
Essential alongside the world’s scriptures, books of philosophy help ground and balance out the spirit. Meditations, a collection of journal entries from a Roman Emperor, written when he was about my age (fifty), are filled with commonsense teachings that I ignored when I was younger but make sense now with lived experience.
I know I lack the discipline to claim I’m a Stoic, but consuming texts like this and Epictetus’s The Manual have absolutely rounded out my understanding of spirituality.
