Two years and a handful of days from when I started this journey with Dan Abnett’s Horus Rising, I reached the end of the bulk of the main books in Games Workshop’s Horus Heresy. What a long, strange trip it’s been.
Every single word of this massive saga has been read to me while I wrestled with my physical discipline. First, in the stellar Anytime Fitness gym that I visited six days a week without fail since it re-opened after our misguided COVID-19 lockdowns, and now since March in the privacy of my own garage.
Not every book has been incredible, but with a literary project of this scope the overall level of quality has been shockingly good. I never was much into Warhammer 40,000 but I’m invested now. Six books remain in the closing arc, The Siege of Terra, and I already know that I’m going to miss these grimdark backdrops to my daily sweats.
