It took me four-and-a-half hours to see the credits roll on this one. I’m not complaining. My time is precious and as I’ve tried to convince you (if not myself) in the last few video game review posts on this website: I should be doing other things.
I think I beat the original, Nemesis, on a battered old PlayStation in a crack house some time during the “drug years”. As I made my way through this very shiny modern update I felt a certain longing for the older design. There was a special kind of tension that the tank controls and craggy-edged graphics of that bygone era evoked that just isn’t present here.
One thing is certain: it’s glaringly obvious to me that CAPCOM took less time with the production of this game than with any of the other new Resident Evil titles. They could have, and should have, done far more here to cement the legacy of their remakes. As it stands, this game is little more than a speed bump in my franchise playthrough.
On to Code: Veronica X, and I suspect that game will be just the throwback antidote to ray-traced opulence that I’m looking for.
