Resident Evil 6

I only beat the “Leon” campaign; that leaves three other full-length playthroughs plus the alt-character runs of each. It’s okay to leave things for rainy days—he says, shooting a wary glance at his collection of thousands of unfinished video games—and I suspect I’ll swing back this way if and when CAPCOM decides to release another remake.

Was Resident Evil 6 any good, though? I try my best to avoid answering that question when I write these reviews, because of subjectivity. What’s good for me might be trash for you, and vice versa. As far as Resident Evil games go, this one marks the end of the long push into more action-oriented play that began with 4 and then went off the rails. I will always prefer the slower-paced, obscure puzzle-oriented nature of the earlier entries. As we’ll see, the games to come return to this form, albiet minus the fixed-camera views that made the original quadrilogy so cinematic and suspenseful.

I dunno. At this point, to me, it’s all about the contribution that Shinji Mikami made to this genre of video game, and the franchise titles that lack his presence also lack that special flavor of terror that only he knew how to inject. Try playing Resident Evil 6 back-to-back with The Evil Within and I think you’ll see exactly what I mean.
