Those About to Die

I thoroughly enjoyed Robert Rodat’s Roman drama. With my last year of undergraduate study in computer science threatening to overwhelm my aging senses, I needed this perfect storm of scenery-chewing acting and questionable special effects to remind me not to take things too seriously.

It’s a pot-boiler that spends a lot of time setting up the characters, and the pay-off’s worth it. After watching the series I checked out the reviews—always a fraught endeavor, but I was curious—and it appears that the show has divided audiences. I’ve never seen HBO's Rome, but a lot of people are mad that Those About to Die isn’t it’s sequel.

There are worse ways to blow ten hours than this, believe me.
