Here

Halfway through watching Robert Zemeckis’s Here, I broke one of my cardinal rules: don’t ingest anyone else’s opinion on a thing I haven’t yet experienced. I went looking at the Wikipedia page and saw the critical reception.

Many critics did not like this film.

I completed my viewing with this in mind. As I openly wept during the denouement, I wondered where the vitriol I’d seen on Wiki had come from. Here was a grand experiment unlike any other piece of cinema I’ve experienced. Aside from the uncanny valley of Tom Hanks’s weird mouth (which I couldn’t decide if it was an artifact of the technology used to de-age the man or an affectation he was using for the character) the show was flawless.

I would have enjoyed watching this in the theater. It’s “free” on Amazon Prime Video as of this writing, and there are far worse ways you could spend 104 minutes of your day.
