Deliverance Lost

I really enjoyed this entry into The Horus Heresy because it took me to Terra and gave me a glimpse of the inner workings of the genetic science fiction that underpins the Space Marines and their Primarchs. I think the literary discipline that Games Workshop has refined for decades shone in Thorpe’s story.

There’s a great sequence in this book where a group of Space Marines navigates a deathtrap dungeon, as well as an encounter with one of the most enigmatic factions of the Heresy. There are also plenty of battle sequences and many callbacks to previous entries in the series. The loyal series reader is well-rewarded here.

I’m looking forward to reading more of Thorpe’s work; he’s got a strong handle on the milieu.
