It only took me three days to read The Bhagavad Gita, the core of the Hindu scripture. In the face of the time I spent with The Holy Bible and The Qur’an, this was a holiday.
And yet The Gita was every bit as rich and thought-provoking as those other books. So much so that, if I were to start this exploration of the world’s religions over again, I would read it first.
There is much more to Hinduism. My copy of The Rig Veda, ten books of 1,028 hymns, arrives on Monday. Those mandalas lay the mythological and ritualistic groundwork. I was told to read The Gita first, so I’m looking forward to seeing what over 10,000 verses add to my understanding.
I’ll pen my collected thoughts on faith, belief, and religion after I’m done with Buddhism and the Tao Te Ching. But at this point I am very satisfied with how my approach is going. I have a clear idea of the LORD and what it means to live a good life, and I can tell you that there’s never been anything simpler.
