Chants of Sennaar

ALT

Rundisc's Chants of Sennaar is the best video game of this type since Polytron's FEZ. A masterclass in game design, the apex of what lo-fi indie video game aesthetic can and should be, and a vibrant blend of environmental storytelling laden with thought-provoking subtext.

Playing Chants right after the epic 96-hour extravaganza of Ubisoft Montreal’s Assassin’s Creed Origins was like jumping into an icy river after a hot sauna, and just as refreshing. If it’s one thing that both of these experiences reinforced for me it’s that the French know how to build excellent video games.

9.7 hours to complete, zero replayability, and the memory will live on. A+.
