Copycats
Listening to the music they liked, reading the books they recommended, eating the foods they favored and imitating their actions both past and present at every turn with the vague hope of in some way catching the essence of what made them who they were, and in doing so incorporate that into our own beings, and become more like them.
We weren't very original creatures, but true innovation was forever scarce and we were lazy by nature.
