About Christopher Magnus Øvringmo Nilssen

I grew up in Victoria, British Columbia, the son of a Norwegian sea captain and a Mohawk legal professional. From 1999 to 2008, I lived in Japan, working as a Berlitz English instructor.

I hold diplomas in Foundation Visual Art & Design and Game Design from Vancouver Film School. In 2025, I completed a B.A. in Creative Writing with a minor in Computer Science at Vancouver Island University. I’m a two-time recipient of the Nora Mitchell Bursary and a five-time Dean’s List honoree, supported by the Grand River Post Secondary Education Office and the Canadian Government.

From 2010 to 2015, I worked as a solo indie game developer, releasing forty projects built with Unity. From 2017 to 2020, I produced and hosted 512 live episodes of a video game news and review show on Twitch. In 2024, I created 152 episodes of gameplay commentary. In 2025, I launched a daily YouTube series critiquing games from the Steam Discovery Queue—unscripted, unedited, and recorded each morning as part of a creative regimen.

I'm the author of the short story Parlow’s Choice, the novella Tale of the Madeus, the novel Ambia, and various works of poetry and short fiction. In 2023, I published Project 365, a yearlong sequence of daily original writings paired with digital art and audio recordings.

I live in Nanaimo, Canada, with my wife and our cat, Teto.
