About Christopher Magnus Øvringmo Nilssen

I grew up in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, the son of a Norwegian sea captain and a Mohawk legal professional. I lived in Japan from 1999 to 2008, where I worked as a Berlitz English instructor.

I hold diplomas in Foundation Visual Art and Design and Game Design from Vancouver Film School. I was a solo independent video game developer from 2010 to 2015 and shipped forty projects using the Unity game engine.

I wrote, produced, and performed 512 episodes of a live-broadcast video game news and reviews program on Twitch.tv from 2017 to 2020, and another 152 episodes of “let’s play” content from March through June of 2024.

I’m the author of the short story Parlow’s Choice, the novella Tale of the Madeus, the novel Ambia, and many works of poetry and short fiction. In 2023 I published Project 365, which consisted of daily original written works combined with unique digital artwork and audio recordings.

I’m a two-time awardee of the Nora Mitchell Bursary and five-time listee on the Dean's List. I’ve completed the requirements for an undergraduate degree in creative writing from Vancouver Island University thanks to the generous support of Grand River Post Secondary Education Office and the Canadian Government. I’ll complete the degree with a minor in computer science in Spring of 2025 and plan to move on to a master’s degree in creative writing.

I live in Nanaimo, Canada, with my wife and our cat, Teto.
