YouTube Progress Diary

June 21, 2025

I didn’t want to write about the YouTube channel in the monthly reports, so I buried it here, under essays. If you’re reading this: congratulations for finding it.

The story so far:

I’m shit-talking whatever twelve games the Steam Discovery Queue serves up that morning. If anything, it’s more aggressive and comfortable than it was during all the years of the Twitch Dark Acre Church production.

It’s very much an “old man yells at cloud” ritual now.

I’m also doing it to do it, a departure from all my other attempts at content creation. In the past, I couldn’t free myself from the desperate prayer that it would turn into a career. Now, after graduating university and finding real, gainful, traditional employment, the act of uploading a raw video to the internet can assume the form it should: a hobby.

The most enjoyable part of the process so far has been generating the thumbnails through ChatGPT. That, along with titling and describing the videos, has been creatively fulfilling. I only worry that I’ll run out of ideas. Time will tell.

Stats:

The most surprising thing is that, despite the likes / dislikes disabled, people still push those buttons. And it’s mostly a 50 / 50 split which, in my mind, is ideal. I don’t want to create an echo chamber, and I don’t expect everyone to agree with the nonsense I spew.
